Nike Blazer được chính thức ra mắt vào năm 1973 và được biết đến là đôi giày dành riêng cho vận động viên bóng rổ. Cho đến nay, Nike Blazer là đôi giày bóng rổ lâu đời nhất của hãng giày này.

Cái tên Nike Blazer được lấy cảm hứng từ tên của một đội bóng rổ tại quê hương của nhà sáng lập Nike là “Portland Trail Blazers”. Thời gian này thì Nike là một hãng còn trẻ tuổi, mới thành lập được khoảng 9 năm nên chưa thực sự xây dựng được chỗ đứng trên thị trường, cũng như chưa tạo được dấu ấn cho mình. Chính vì thế khi ra mắt Nike Blazer thì hãng đã tạo điểm nhấn cho đôi giày bằng chi tiết logo Swoosh của hãng và hợp tác với cầu thủ bóng rổ nổi tiếng thời bấy giờ là George Gervin để làm đại diện hình ảnh và quảng bá cho mẫu giày này. Với chiến dịch marketing này thì Nike đã xuất hiện trên mọi tấm ảnh của cầu thủ bóng rổ này và nhanh chóng tiếp cận được người tiêu dùng. Đây là phương pháp quảng bá và nhận diện thương hiệu rất thông minh của Nike.

Sau này, đôi giày này còn được giới chơi skateboard rất ưa chuộng và được nhiều người biết đến như đôi giày cho môn thể thao trượt ván nhiều hơn là giày bóng rổ.

Năm 2006, Nike Blazer đã cùng với thương hiệu Supreme – một thương hiệu siêu cao cấp dành cho giới skater và hip hop tạo nên một bộ sưu tập siêu chất với 3 mẫu giày màu đỏ, đen, trắng cùng logo Swoosh bằng giả da rắn.

Gần đây vào năm 2017, Nike Blazer lại cùng với một thương hiệu streetwear khác là Off-White làm sống lại mẫu giày này với những đôi giày được phối màu siêu chất và làm điên đảo cộng đồng Skeater.
